In this work, a bridge is established between medieval images of the saints and the icons of the 21st century. By means of the format, the use of a wooden board as the painting support and the placement of the subject, “sacred algorithm icons“ formally links to historical depictions of religious motifs. The image itself takes its starting point from there, but also anchors the display in a contemporary discourse and, additionally, generates a contemporary iconography. This does not merely depict religious persons, but also their use of technologies – whose algorithms are surrounded by an almost mystical incomprehension, an almost supernatural fascination.
